Membership Diaries 2010

Please note that membership diaries are now available in the Downstairs Lounge.

This year members are asked to uplift their diaries from the clubhouse instead of them being posted out. This is because of the prohibitive cost of postage.

The original plan to put Ladies diaries in the Ladies powder room has been changed. There were a number of envelopes headed Mr and Mrs and this was just causing confusion therefore they are all together in alphabetical order in the Downstairs Lounge.

Major work on the course starting 8th March.

The Club has an annual report from the Sports Turf Research Institute and has also commissioned a separate report on the copse of trees halfway halfway up the hill on the right hand side of the 4th hole.

These trees are near the end of their life and there is a great danger that in a storm if one tree came down it would take the rest of the trees with it. In such a circumstance with upturned roots it would be a very costly exercise to clear the area let alone the element of concern for members’ safety.

The Club has therefore arranged for a contractor to take the trees down and replant with broadleaf trees.

The work will take one week to carry out.

During this time members are asked to show the greatest caution in this area and under no circumstance to enter the taped off area. Additionally the wood will be removed out past the Greens Shed and members are asked again to remain aware that there will be large vehicles crossing the course at this time.

THE 4TH HOLE WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE DURATION OF THE WORK.

With heavy machinery coming across the course the hard frost in the ground is the ideal time for this work to be undertaken.

The club will post photographs on the website keeping members up to date with the change in the landscape and showing the before and after.

Please be on your guard

Over the last 5 years the Club has been broken into on a number of occasions and the Club has obtained photographs from the CCTV cameras of the person involved.

This person was found guilty at Paisley Sherrif Court in May 2009.

In the last two weeks the same person has been in the vicinity of the clubhouse when the caddy car shed was broken into and on Saturday 13th February, he gained access to the clubhouse, under the pretext that he was at the Club for a job interview.

Members are asked to be vigilent and if they have any doubts about letting someone into the clubhouse, they are not sure about, then please err on the side of caution and do not let them in. This is not only to prevent theft but  also in the interest of members and staff safety.

A picture of the person taken last Saturday is as follows:

How bad is this weather?

With the worst winter in some time rumbling on we take this chance to remind you not to discount the Club at this time when looking for something to do during these short days and long nights.

The Club can offer sports events on Sky on a large TV screen, we have a pool table for the winter and we have recently brought back a fruit machine for those feeling lucky.

This is on top of the extensive and varied bar menu supplied by Larry Hornal and the Club’s ever popular house wine and range of beers. Please see below.

On the front page under the MEMBERS tab and then FIXTURE DIARY

Forms are also available now for the Ladies Open Day and Seniors Open and can be downloaded from the righthand side of the main club web page.

The Membership Diary is at the printers and the club are still hopeful of this being available for the end of February when it can be picked up from the Clubhouse, Male diaries in the Downstairs Lounge and Ladies in the Powder Room.

If there is any change to this or when they become available this will be notified on the website.

No more relief from seeded divots

Please note the following change to the decisions on the rules of golf which
came into force on the 1st January 2010.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2009
CHANGES to the DECISIONS on the RULES OF GOLF
From January 1, no relief allowed from divot hole or repaired divot hole
By RON MENZIES

As usual, half way through the four-year life of an edition of The Rules of
Golf, the R&A has published a new Decisions Book. This contains some 30 new
decisions and amended versions of further 49 revised decisions which come
into effect on January 1, 2010.

Many of these merit detailed consideration only by serious students of the
rules, budding referees and quiz masters and require a thorough knowledge to
understand their complexity. However, there is one change that will require
immediate action by many club committees and the awareness of all golfers.
New decision 33-8/34 now removes the authority for a committee to make a
local rule “providing relief without penalty from a divot hole or a repaired
divot hole (i.e. filled with sand or seed mix)”

At least half the golf clubs in Scotland have such a local rule and these
must be withdrawn immediately before any qualifying competitions for
handicap purposes can be played. Such a local rule contravenes Rule 13-1
which states that a ball must be played as it lies and has generally not
been used in professional and major amateur competitions.

It is often mistakenly believed that this rule protects the golf course. If
relief is given or indeed demanded from a seeded divot hole, a second divot
hole is created and requires repair, leaving two seeded divots holes. If the
ball is played from the original hole it may require repair but only one
hole remains.
